Salvation soundtrack ushers in a new sound

As with previous Crow soundtracks, Salvation offers up some of the best modern rock acts performing today. But, unlike previous soundtracks, the Salvation collection includes some of the best up and coming club techno bands today. This gives Salvation a “funkier” sound than we previously have experienced. All of the music is properly placed in the movie and adds to the scenes atmosphere. An unfortunate development with the soundtrack, it has had to survive without the benefit of the feature movie it promotes. Salvation has been delayed for a year and is going straight to video on January 23rd, 2001. Unfortunate for a movie and a soundtrack that deserves more.  A big thanks to Corvus at “A Dead Man Visits You”. We were short a few song lyrics which he had. A big thanks for letting us use them.

In Stores TUESDAY, March 28, the Soundtrack to the Crow: Salvation.  The third installment in the Crow film series tells the story of a young man framed and executed for the brutal murder of his girlfriend. Returning as the Crow, the victim is now the hunter, but in order to track down his quarry, the Crow must find out just who is behind a citywide conspiracy of lethal corruption. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Eric Mabius, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, and Fred Ward and was directed by Bharat Nalluri (Killing Time). The Crow: Salvation is distributed by Dimension Films.

The soundtrack for The Crow: Salvation will feature an edited version of "The Best Things" from the band FILTER. A video is also in the works for "The Best Things." Hole's cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue," will also be featured on the album. Look for original and previously unreleased tracks by, Kid Rock, Rob Zombie, Monster Magnet, Days Of The New, Tricky, Danzig, Stabbing Westward, Pitch Shifter.

The soundtrack recording boasts a collection of exclusive tracks from today's hottest alternative artists. "Warm Winter," performed by Kid Rock, "Living Dead Girl" performed by Rob Zombie, (re-mixed by Nine Inch Nails' band member Charlie Clausser), "Independent Slaves" by Days Of The New, "Everything Sucks (Again)" by Pitchshifter, "Rusted Wings" by New American Shame and "Antihistamine" by Tricky.  They're all exclusive to the all-star soundtrack.

Jeff Most, executive music producer of The Crow: Salvation has dedicated himself to the project. Most who is also producer of the film explains, "It's hard to top yourself each time out, though we still try of course.  The film isn't merely a backdrop for a series of songs. The music has to compliment what's on screen, support the director's concepts, so it's not as simple as just collecting a bunch of hot tracks.  He continues, "the music and the film are truly companion pieces.  This soundtrack is totally representative of the spirit of the film."

Track Listing: (to listen, click on the song title, click on lyrics for lyrics!)
1. Filter - "The Best Things" (exclusive remix) - Lyrics

This is a remixed version of the album track on their current release. The song plays over the end title credits, lyrically touching on the film's core themes and story elements. The band had a signature track on the COA collection ("Jurrasitol"; also a video), and this one is the first single from the SALVATION collection, with even more remixes becoming available. Filter's sound is quintessential Crow, very powerful and driving. The video for the song features the band playing at an outdoor party where several of the characters from SALVATION can be seen, including Alex Corvis, Erin Randall, The Captain and two of his plainsclothes cops.

2. Rob Zombie - "Living Dead Girl" (Naked Exorcism Mix by Charlie Clausser of Nine Inch Nails) - Lyrics

This remix was done by Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails, a familiar name to fans of Rob Zombie. The song is used during the car chase sequence where several police cars are trashed. Zombie is another alumnus from the COA collections, where his cover of "I'm Your Boogieman" was a stand-out. (He also directed a great video of it as well.) His association with the Crow dates back to the production of the first film, when Rob visited the film set in during filming in North Carolina while White Zombie was on tour. "We tried to get them on camera during one of the club scenes but the scheduling just didn't work out," recalls producer Jeff Most.

3. The Infidels (featuring Juliette Lewis) - "Bad Brother" - Lyrics

This is the first release from the band, which consists of two veterans from the UK techno/industrial scene. The track plays over the prison break sequence just after the Crow's resurrection, and can be taken as a commentary on Crow's rebirth into the world. The song features an in-character sample of actress Juliette Lewis singing in her jail cell from the film Natural Born Killers. (The track bed is built around a sample from NWA's "Easy Duz It", which itself samples Parliament's "A Joyful Process").

4. Kid Rock - "Warm Winter" - Lyrics

A brand new track from this top-selling artist; playing on the car radio just as the police chase sequence begins. The lyrics prefigure the events that are about to happen, while reminding the audience how deeply the driver of that car has hurt the Crow.

5. Hole - "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" - Lyrics

Performed by another veteran of COA, this classic Dylan cover was recorded during the Celebrity Skin sessions and appeared as a B?side in the UK. That version is used in the film (also over end credits), while the soundtrack album will feature an exclusive "single mix" by Jack Joseph Puig. Hole is another band returning from the second collection. The song fits Erin's [Kirsten Dunst] story arc, her role in setting the wrong things right.

6. The Flys - "What You Want" - Lyrics

A brand new track. This is used at the beginning of a crucial scene where one of the corrupt cops pulls over two young girls for "driving while teenagers." The song's lyrics add resonance to the cop's predator nature, establishing a tense mood of fear and desire.

7. Monster Magnet - "Big God" - Lyrics

This song originally appeared as a B?side in Europe, and is used to alter the tone of a scene when the Crow makes a dramatic entrance. The lyrics are about getting retribution and revenge, creating a feeling of impending violence.

8. Sin - "Painful" - Lyrics

A major band in France, Sin is part of the new industrial dance scene and this will be their first release outside of Europe, where the cut was a top single. SALVATION features an exclusive remix, which is used in a club setting, where the Crow doing some close?in fighting. The group is in the process of being signed to a US label; its debut release, "Noisy Pipes/Lovely Noises" is available on import.

9. Tricky - "Antihistamine" (Forgotten By The World Mix) - Lyrics

One of the biggest acts in the British hip-hop scene, Tricky is another alumnus from the second film. The song is a rare track that has only been available as a limited edition to DJs in the UK. It features Martina, Tricky's favorite chanteuse, singing the melody line from Blondie's "Heart of Glass" while Tricky raps behind her. It's used when one of the cops visits a porn internet site, and in fact the film's director, Bharat Nalluri??a major fan of Tricky??used the track for on?set playback during the actual filming of that sequence.

10. Days Of The New - "Independent Slaves" - Lyrics

This track first appeared as a B?side in Australia and Germany. Powerful and haunting, it comments on generational divisions and how one lives in the world, both major themes in the film. The song is used in anticipation of the Crow's first confrontation.

11. Pitchshifter - "Everything Sucks (Again)" - Lyrics

A leader in the English industrial scene for many years and a favorite of Crow creator James O'Barr. Their song is used as a thematic bridge between a scene where one of the bad cops roughs up somebody who cares about the Crow to where the Crow goes out to hunt the villain down. The song comments on the Crow's experiences, but also speaks to the experiences of youth today, especially in terms of how their spirit gets trampled by authority.

12. Stabbing Westward - "Waking Up Beside You" - Lyrics

A new track tailored to the film, the song poignantly addresses the loss of a loved one, speaking to the Crow's alienation. A version of the track called "The Last Call" mix is used just prior to the Alex Corvis execution sequence. The soundtrack will feature the "Forgotten by the World" mix, an angrier version than the melodic, melancholy interpretation presented in the film. The band did all these mixes themselves and both versions are exclusive to SALVATION.

13. The Crystal Method - "Now Is The Time" (The Crystal Method Millennium Mix) - Lyrics

This track originally appeared on the band's first EP, but this new version is totally exclusive to SALVATION. It is used as a tonal shift during a scene at the bad cops' secret lair, kind of an aural joke actually, coming on as a highlight to a line of dialogue, then plays during the rest of the scene as a counterpoint to the mood of the characters. The Crystal Method was used a couple of times on the Crow television series, and even appeared on?camera in performance.

14. Static X (featuring Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory) - "Burning Inside" - Lyrics

A dynamic cover version of a classic Ministry song from their Land of Rape and Honey album, this is a one?off collaboration between Bell and Static X, and is exclusive to SALVATION. It appears during a sequence where some of the Crow's handiwork is discovered by the media, while the Crow himself is already off on his next appointment with justice.

15. New American Shame - "Rusted Wings" - Lyrics

A totally new track by a young Seattle rock band. The song is the third (of four) tracks that play during the end-titles, and its lyric narrative parallels many elements from the film, specifically the tragedy that happened to the Crow and his girlfriend could happen to anyone.

16. Danzig - "underBELLY Of The Beast" (remix of "Belly Of The Beast") - Lyrics

This is a special remix created by Glenn Danzig of the song "The Belly of the Beast," which appears on Danzig 6:66 Satans Child. This new version adds nuance to one of the film's most apocalyptic sequences. This is only Danzig's second soundtrack appearance (after Songs in the Key of X from The X?Files series)."

The Crow: Salvation Score CD Overview (released April 2000)

The music doesn't stop there, however. Continuing another Crow tradition, the release of the orchestral score will feature a new song co-written by the film's composer, Marco Beltrami. A rising force in the new breed of film composers, Beltrami first found fame with his exciting scores for the Scream films. His work on SALVATION is evocative and compelling, representing a new level of excellence for the young composer.
