The Crow: Stairway to Heaven (1998-1999)
Before going into the premise of the series and my personal thoughts, I thought that I would first set the record straight on the series cancellation. The end of the series was due to TV politics, not a lack of ratings or fan support. The series consistently garnered between a 2 and 3 million viewership share weekly. A solid hit for syndication TV. With these ratings, 80% of the market indicated that they would pick up the series for a second season if it were offered. Polygram gave the green light for another season. Universal acquired Polygram through a buyout. Since they (Universal) were not going to be in the TV business for much longer, they did not want to spend the money or time on a series not developed by them. Had the series been a runaway hit rather than a solid one, Universal may have been more inclined to try a little harder. Since the folks at Universal did not want it, you would think they would have been more than happy to give up the rights to the series, right? Wrong! Had they allowed Pressman to acquire the rights and produce another season that was even more successful than the first, Universal would have looked the fool for letting it go. So instead of letting that happen, they played hardball. This resulted in Pressman not being able to get the rights in time to save the 1999-2000 season. Pressman has attained the rights. The series is currently being reran on the Scifi channel, www.scifi.com . It is on Sunday mornings, 10am EST. A second season is still a possibility, though time is the greatest enemy now. A side note: During an online chat session, Bryce Zabel, executive producer of the series, indicated that research shows 46% of all Crow fans today were first exposed to The Crow through the series. A testament to how successful the series really was and a big reason Pressman continues working hard to bring it back.

THE CROW: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN - Season 1

Each episode storyline has been transcribed from the official STH website, www.thecrowtv.com . I have also listed, in most of the episode reviews, the groups that had music highlighted. The names of the featured groups were taken directly from the episode credits. If there were other music groups highlighted in an episode and they are not shown, it is because they were not listed in the credits. Also ,have listed the original air date on WGN and a short "personal thought" after each episode synopsis.
