CROW RANTS #1

BY CRIGG

Well what's up fellow Crow fans this is Crigg with the first of I hope many more articles. It's almost that time, The Crow Salvation will be gracing the silver screens in four short months. The thing is though is that we have yet to see a trailer at all. Can you believe it has been a year since Eric Mabius and Kirsten Dunst were cast? Well it has. I'm really hoping the Salvation trailer will play in front of Sleepy Hollow or another movie this week. Now moving onto the soundtrack, the line-up is pretty impressive, but so was City of Angels. I'm really hoping the music fits the movie as well as the first one did. For those of you who have yet to hear Stabbing Westwards song for it called "Waking Up Beside You", I recommend you pick up their album Darkest Days and give it a listen, the whole album is great. Speaking of new movies, there are plenty to hold us over until Salvation is released. Just this week there are two that I'm looking forward to. Those would be Sleepy Hollow and The World Is Not Enough. Then you have Arnold's new flick, End of Days and a month before Salvation, Scream 3. Moving on, why haven't we seen The Crow or City of Angels special releases DVDs yet? Why won't you ever get a response from Pressman when you email them repeatedly? Sorry just ranting a little. I really hope there's a Salvation novelisation and comic book series. Why wont McFarlane make Salvation figures and why are they cancelling the Image series? Since this is the first article and I have  nothing to lose, email me if you have a rant and I'll discuss it here in this column if there is another column.

Crow Rants #2

Well this Crigg here with my second column of Crow Rants. First things first. End of Days has just opened and Im off today to see it and I'm really hoping to see a certain trailer in front of it, you know what I'm talking about. Now on the discussion board this week, there has been an interesting topic: Brandon's death investigation. The website that was brought up, the one offering the Brandon Lee memorial package, I have seen. I was pointed in that direction about a year ago. The content there is interesting to say the least. I have one question though, if they wanted to murder Brandon and put out the movie, couldn't they have rearranged the shooting times and had that scene shot on the last day, instead of like a week before the movie was to be completed. It just sounds fishy is all I'm saying. Of course we'll never know what actually happened. We'll never know who shot JFK or if there really is a Loch Ness monster. Chalk it up to one of lifes' many unsolved mysteries. I'm not commenting against anyones opinion here, just stating mine. Finally it seems that the final acts of the soundtrack have been put together. Kid Rock, don't like him alot, but his music is growing on me. Hole, like this band, listen to their track from COA soundrack all the time. Pitchshifter(one of O'Barrs favorite bands) and Sin I've never heard of, so I'll just have to wait and see. The soundtrack seems to have more artists on it, this time out.

Well this is Crigg and I'm out till next week.

Crow Rants #3

This is Crigg here with another edition of Crow Rants. No Salvation trailer attached to End of Days. I did however get to see the Scream 3 trailer, nifty. Hmmmmm, now comes latest word that another comic book movie will preview its trailer in December. Thats right the X-men movie trailer is scheduled to play in front of Robin Williams new flick,Biccentinial Man on December 17th. Now X-men isn't due out until June 30, 2000, Salvation is due out March. X-men is still filming, Salvation has been through for six months. So I was thinking, on December 10th a flick called Deceit, with Ben Affleck is due to be released, its a Miramax release, so you think will see a trailer? I'm praying we do. When COA came out I remember I actually didn't see the first trailer in a theater til August, it came out in August. I saw the first pics from the movie in a comic book, it all sounds familar doesn't Crow fans? Lets hope for our sake that Ed Pressman and the Weinsteins will really turn the publicity machine on these next couple of months. Now I don't know if this has been mentioned ,but Eric Mabius will be in New York on Jan. 14-15 I think, as part of the annual Fangoria convention. This is Crigg, till next week's rant. Bye.

Crow Rants #4

This is Crigg here with another rant. Will Salvation be delayed yet again? Will we all lynch Ed Pressman? No. Not yet anyway. Patience is a virtue, something I' ve learned the hard way. We just have to have confidence that everyone involved knows what they're doing. Pressman has been involved in making movies for over 20 years, I'm sure he's learned a thing or two don't you? He knows how to keep us interested. By releasing a few pictures here , a few interviews there, we're interested, thus he's done his job. Yes we'll slobber everywhere until we see the first trailer. I'll probably do a couple of backflips. I went everywhere today hoping to find the new issue of Fangoria, sinse it has an on set report from Salvation. Now comes word, there maybe some Crow conventions, now thats cool. Trekkies have their conventions, Superman has his thing, now The Crow may to, thats real cool. Going back to Salvation , can we at least get a shirt, it can read : SEEMS LIKE SALVATION or something on the front. I personally only have 2 Salvation items, the script and one of the teaser poster cards they gave out at the San Diego Comic-con. Plus the comics. So come on lets have some merchandise. Till next week. Bye

Crow Rants #5

Man is the publicity machine gonna  start anytime soon? Not only has Salvation been seemingly delayed , but the comics are over and the t.v. show is no more. I guess its time to whip out the videos and old comics to hold us over. I was thinking about something the other day.  I have The City of Angels book on how they made it and they said Brandon Lee was signed on for 3 films. Does this mean 3 Crow films or 3 films for Ed Pressman? If its the latter, that makes sense. If its the first then that brings  up a question of how would the Eric Draven story continue over 3 films? Of course if it wasnt for Lee's untimely death we would know the answer to that question. I'm glad that it didn' t turn out that way though. I'm not saying I'm glad Brandon is dead. Im glad that a mythos was created through new movies. Would we all be big fans if there wasn't diffrent stories to be told? The first made Lee a star , would the 2nd and 3rd continue to do as well? Or would they have just weighted Lee down in his career? You can easily say the diffrence between The Crow and other comic series is that there's a story for everyone to relate to. You can relate to Draven's love for his fiancee , you can relate to Ashe's love for his child and now you can relate to Alex's love for his fiancee and wanting to clear his name. They were all just ordinary people like us thrown into  extra ordinary situations. Thats what makes the Crow special. Till next week.

Crow Rants #6

This is Crigg here with another rant. Well another review for Salvation has
popped up leaving us all ready for it to pop up. Until then we have suitable replacements for our Crow fix, some aren't even Crow related. On t.v. there's a great show I watch called Angel. David Boreanaz plays a 500 year old vampire who's now a p.i. in L.A. The show reminds me of Batman, but it does have that gothic feel and darkness to it just like The Crow. Then there's a show Angel was hatched from , Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This show is just as dark as Angel. Then there are movies. One that you should check out is Black Circle Boys. It stars Eric Mabius, the Crow's own. If you wanna see him act a little crazy before Salvation hits check this out on video. You can also of course watch the original flick and COA. Now moving on, I think the soundtrack for Salvation is gonna be ,well interesting. I can't say I'm really a big fan of anyone on there. I do like Stabbing Westward and Days of the New though. I would've like to have seen bands like Bush, Creed, Oleander , and Metallica. A sandman remix would be cool. The publicity is slowly starting up for Salvation. Pictures of Eric Mabius have popped up in Sci-Fi magazine and Kirsten Dunst has a small article in the new Cinescape. What disappoints me though is that Mabius is such a good actor , he seems to be getting no attention at all compared to Dunst. Of course she's more well known. On the poster she gets credit before him. I think in my opinion that the lead character should get top billing. Well
hopefully the world won't end before I write another article, later.

Crow Rants #7

Crigg here with another week, new article. Well the world hasn't come to an end, yet. There wasn't any shocking news to speak of either. Like some guy, goes crazy and kills family cause its the start of a new millenium. Wait the millenium doesn't start until 2001 correct? Now moving on I'm still holding out hope that Salvation will be released in March, I think a trailer could play in front of Scream 3. The new issue of Fangoria magazine should be out with the on set report. Lots of ideas have popped up about what the 4th Crow flick will be about: a ganster rapper slain is what we heard. A while back Bryce Zabel mentioned he was working on an idea like this, could Mr. Zabel be the man to pen the fourth? Possibly. What about James O' Barr? He's the creator and long been linked to write the next one. He was actually gonna write the 2nd but said it was like Brandon was sitting across the table from him , so he couldn't do it. I'm almost willing to bet Salvation will be number 1 the week it opens, City of Angels was. As soon as Salvation makes more than COA, the 4th flick will be greenlit. No I'm not a COA basher, but I figure Salvation will make its budget opening weekend and eclipse COA profits within a month. Salvation has a better cast, Dunst has a big following, Mabius's fan base is growing daily, and anyone whos seen Ward's work knows he's a good actor.Interesting question though, what if Salvation makes a bigger profit than the original? Will we be upset? I wont, I think it'll be great. Till next week. Crigg is out.

Crow Rants #8

Well we were all geared up for it. Salvation was rumoured to be released on March 31st. Now here we are seemingly facing another delay. Its not the fact that its being released later that bothers me. Its the fact we havent seen a trailer nor have we heard an official statement from Ed Pressman. I have Pressman Company's phone and fax number(no, really I do) think I should give em a call? Publications have released articles, this very site has gone out of its way to promote the film and share the latest information. Eric Mabius has gone out of his way to promote the film at conventions , being nice to everyone there from what I hear. Kirsten Dunst and Bharat Nalluri the same, these people are rare breeds in Hollywood, believe me. I dont know what the deal is , its easy for us to blame someone. The X-men just, I mean just wrapped shooting and the trailer is out already(awesome by the way). Crow fans are the most loyal fan base around, we'd have to be, look at what we've been through just with this movie. I'm so looking forward this movie, i'll be there opening day, it just seems opening day may never arrive. So were left to wonder again, will Salvation debut in March, April, May or ever? It doesnt take a year to do post production on a film when the hardest scene is probably blowing a car up or jumping from a building. There was alot of flack because March 31st is the anniversary of a certain actor's death. Do people fail to realize that this isnt to desecrate his memory. Its a testament to what this person help create with an outstanding performance, to what Vincent Perez help create,to what Mark Dacascos help create, and to what Eric Mabius will continue.  Until next time, keep Crowing.
