Green Eggs & Ham

"Green Eggs & Ham". A wonderful book written and illustrated by Dr Seuss. It is a beautiful story because it teaches us about something that a good many Crow fans are doing a lot of lately. Making assumptions based on little or no facts. After checking the message boards around the net, I have noticed a mass quantity of assumptions. It seems without any knowledge of the storyline, casting (outside the lead), music selections for the soundtrack, etc., a great many have become experts on "The Crow: Lazarus" and they are unabashedly claiming that they don't like it. This leads us back to Green Eggs and Ham. Ole' Sam was an expert. He knew for a fact that he did not like green eggs and ham. He did not like them on a boat or in a chair. He did not like them anywhere. Funny thing, Sam had never tried green eggs and ham. In the spirit of Dr Seuss, I came up with this little ditty:

Sam knows for sure he will not like a rapper Crow.

He knows the story and will hate it so.

The soundtrack may have some rap.

Surely we can not stand for that.

How dare we feature something like this?

A Crow played by a man with the initials DMX.

All kidding aside, as I stated above, we seem to have a great many "Sam's" out there that know for a fact they will hate "The Crow: Lazarus". An obvious excuse for this is that all these fans are closed-minded and stuck on one image of The Crow. I do not think that is the reason. For the most part, Crow fans are an accepting "murder" of people. No, I think it lies in the unknown. Much like Sam, these fans fear the unknown, a change. Let's go back to the eggs and ham. Green is not a natural color for eggs and ham. All of the eggs and ham that Sam had seen were the usual color. Not like this green stuff he was being offered. So it was only natural that Sam automatically came to the conclusion he would not like green eggs and ham. The same can be said with the new Crow movie. Primarily, we are used to alternative style music and themes. The Crow: Lazarus deviates from the norm. The story premise is going to follow that of a rapper. We all know "those" people are nothing but a bunch of thugs. Surely we can not feel anything for this kind of person. As for the music, we all hate rap, right? It doesn't speak of pain and struggle like our alternative music does. Our alternative music is the only music for The Crow. In all of this assuming, we have been like Sam. The decision has already been made. We do not like this premise, based on our unfounded assumptions. Here are the FACTS. We know that DMX is playing the role. However, we have no idea what approach he is going to take. We do not know his depth. We have not seen the script. We have seen only a short paragraph about the general premise. We have not been privy to information about who is going to be cast with DMX. And, we have not seen the slate of the music that has been selected for the soundtrack. I think our "Sam's" are in for a surprise when they actually get a taste of "The Crow: Lazarus". It may look different, but that doesn't mean it will not taste good. Nothing like actually tasting something before you say you don't like it. I have used the 'Green Eggs & Ham' analogy quit a lot. It all started when I read the original Crow comics by O'Barr. In one of Eric's delusional moments, there is a reference to Dr Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat". How fitting.

Take care,
