| A Boy and His Bird News October 2003 Chris Cheshire sends along this really cool update on a recent showing of The Crow in Phoenix: "Just thought I'd drop a quick note to mention that the Phoenix Spectrum Mall in Phoenix, Arizona showed the original film tonight (10-25-03) and will do so again on Halloween night. I stumbled in accidentally to find many people dressed in full crow make-up and costume. Costume judging, souvenirs handed out, Goth chicks, the whole spiel. Phoenix holds the distinction for hosting one of the first viewings (if not the first) for The Crow on March 5th, 1994. True to form, the presenters of the film last night passed out copies of the early screening passes to all in attendance for keepsakes. A brief discussion of the film took place before the film started, and it looked like people were breaking up into groups after it was over (I didn't stay to find out - already past my bedtime). Anyway, people in the Phoenix area might enjoy this so I thought I'd pass it on." This is a really cool get together. Anyone in the Phoenix area should get down there on Halloween. This would be something very cool for any city with lots of Crow fans to have. Thanks to Chris for this update Take care......
Gary Milavitch sends along this link from Action-Figure.com, and it's certainly something to look forward to:
Sally Arrivee and Dannyraven send along this interview that David gave recently to Zap2it TV. Not a real in-depth discussion on the up coming film, but enough to whet the appetite. Click here to see the interview. And there is more……… Merchandise update from DJ over at the ChambeRoom. If you remember, we told you about Dynamic Forces offering the first trading card set since the set for the second film was made available in 1996. Well, bad news for anyone wanting to order a case of them (10 boxes) online, they are completely sold out!! Click on the link provided to see the bad news. However, the individual packs are still available it seems. So this means you will need to check your local comic book store and novelty shops to see if they were one of the lucky folks that snapped up the cases. Go here to put your order in for the individual packets. There was talk about a new Crow 18" inch action figure from NECA, but there is no word on their site about it. All that is listed is the 12" inch talking figure. Thanks to Sally and DJ for their updates!! Take care….
This update comes to us by way of the CrowFanClub Starz is putting together a 10th Anniversary retrospective of THE CROW, documentary style, to be shown on Encore. They have already interviewed David Patrick Kelly along with other actors from the movie. The CrowFanClub is working with Starz to get an interview with James O'Barr that will also be included in the special. The air date of this program is scheduled for late November or early December. As the details of the actual air date are known, CrowFanClub and ABaHB will get word to you. This should be a fantastic special and one that is a must see for us Crow-fanatics. Thanks to Matt of the CrowFanClub for the heads up on this. Take care...... Official Crow Site Down..........Again In what has become a semi-annual event, the official Crow website, www.thecrow.com, is currently down. According to our friend DJ from over at the ChambeRoom, a sources close to him says the fee for the server that houses the site has not been paid up to date, thus the server owners have shut it down until payment is received. This could be a move on Pressman's part to gear up for the rebirth of the site, but we really have no idea at this time. We will dig around and see if we can find out what is going on. At any rate, ABaHB is alive and kicking so come on over. If your in the mood to discuss The Crow, or other topics, check out the Crowfans discussion room or the ChambeRoom. Take care.....
Post-production continues with Wicked Prayer. The first cut should be completed any day now (if not already complete) and hopefully, word on what Miramax/Dimension has in store as far as a release (either theatrical or direct to video) will be forthcoming soon. Last word was the only thing not secured was the composer for the score, but that should be taken care of by now and a fully scored cut of the film soon to follow for the powers that be. We spoke with Eric Mabius recently and he is doing well. He is part of the cast for the Showtime series “The L Word” that will start up early next year. He reports it has been great fun, has enjoyed the time in Canada. Of course, you can look for him in the sequel to Resident Evil due out next year. Fans of the first Crow movie, Circuit City is running a deal this week that should help those strapped for cash. They have the Collector's Series edition of the DVD (2-disk set that was released in 2001) available to purchase, a long with one other movie, for only $20.00 bucks. The 2-for-$20.00 deal includes these other movies: Count Of Monte Cristo, Bad Company, Shanghai Noon, O'Brother Where Art Thou? and From Dusk Till Dawn (Collector's Series). So if you are a Crow fan and don't have the DVD of the first film and also a fan of one of these other films, you can get both for only $20.00 (retail for the Crow DVD alone is over $20.00, so this is a heck of a deal). If you are still looking for the Crow boxed set, it is now down to $29.99 at many places including FYI (thanks for the info Arykh), so fans who couldn't afford the boxed set initially in 2001, looks like you may have a chance to get it now. Take care.....
For those who haven't checked, we've added a cast/character member to Wicked Prayer as well as an update to another character. To see the new installments for 'Cortez' and 'El Nino Guard', click here!
As everyone knows, we ran a contest recently that was sponsored by the good folks over at DragonFly Productions. We wanted to give you a little input on a couple of those items from a fan perspective. James O'Barr's The Crow Statuette - Regular, is everything it is billed as and more. The color is stark and vibrant. The detail is incredible. At 6-inches in height, it is the perfect size for the Crow collector out there that has a cabinet or shelf for displaying not to mention the perfect size for putting up on top of your computer terminal to give you inspiration as you post on the Crow discussion boards. Not only are they great looking, but also sturdy. My young daughter tested that out the first day when she took off with it and threw it. Needless to say my heart skipped a beat. Luckily, it landed on the carpet, but still, being thrown and not a scratch or break on it shows the quality of the craftsmanship. This statuette is also available in four other versions. See the DragonFly site for a look at all of them. James O'Barr's The Crow Book Of Pain Sketchbook is perfect for the creative Crow fan out there. Each page is of high quality paper, perfect for art pencil drawing. Each page has a small version of one of James' drawings in the corner. The gloss finish on the front and back cover offers a great compliment to the art from James' comic (on the front) and a reprinted quote (on the back). The sketchbook, with its unlined pages, is intended for drawing in, but can be used for writing thoughts down, pasting personal items into, whatever you want to do. It is more than just a sketchbook, but a creative outlet for whatever you choose to place on the pages. We would highly recommend these items to any fan out there that desire to add a Crow item to their collection, or possibly purchase one (or two) for a friend. This recommendation does not come from any obligation to DragonFly for their sponsorship of our contest, but from an honest opinion of how good these items are. We wanted to give everyone an update on DragonFly Productions latest item, the fantastic "The Crow Dance Of The Dead mini-statue". We featured it here a few weeks back and the response to it has been phenomenal. The mini-statue is limited to only 1500 reproductions. As of today, they are 72% sold out from pre-orders! This item is not available to ship until December, but pre-orders are being taken now so you need to get your order in now before it is too late. Here is a pic of the sketchbook and the statuette. I will apologize up front about the quality of the statuette pic. I am a new digital camera user, so still working with how to lighten/darken things. But you can get a good idea of the statuettes size and dimensions and how it can be displayed. As I stated above, both of these items are fantastic and worthwhile additions to any Crow fan's collection. Take care......LLcruize The Crow in Chico Andrew D. Jones sends this our way: "I was browsing through Yahoo's movie page and found that The Crow will be playing at the U/A El Rey Theatre in Chico, Northern California on October 2nd."
