Thanks to: IMBD May 22nd, 1999 12:32pm The Crow: Stairway to Heaven syndicated television series will end its first season with the episode "A Gathering Storm." Following is the complete story synopsis for the episode, which was written by Gregg Fienberg and directed by Brendon Spencer. "Frederick Balsam, the ailing leader of the mysterious Lazarus Group has successfully transformed his soul into the body of his former personal trainer James Horton. Now young, virile and still pure evil, he has destroyed the body jump technology and is systematically eliminating anyone who knows about it. Part of his master plan is to turn the Crow into his one-man private army and destroy Draven. "Meanwhile, Detective Albrecht is assigned to find out who vandalized Draven's grave, covering it in blood. In the cemetery, he is approached by an extremely nervous Judge Morrison. A former member of the Lazarus Group, he did all their judicial dirty work. He now demands police protection in exchange for information about the secret society. "Draven's grave is disturbed a second time as the Crow emerges. Balsam/Horton has split him and Draven apart to become two beings. One is malevolent and vengeful, the other good. The Crow kills Funboy in jail, then kidnaps Morrison, severely beating Albrecht in the process. "In the Land of the Dead, Shelly again meets Casey Thompson. He offers her the chance to save Eric; however, there is a catch. She can reincarnate briefly, but then will no longer be able to resist moving on to the Light. When the jealous Crow kidnaps her, Draven rushes to the rescue. He is no longer invincible and she can only watch as they battle to the death." It was announced that The Crow: Stairway to Heaven had been picked up for a second season, but there have been recent reports that the show might be in danger of cancellation anyway.

He can't even console himself with the thought that at least Shelly's found peace, because he isn't with her. What's to keep him on earth? What's to keep him from ending it all? May 15th, 1999 12:22pm Here in flies an excellent report from Crow331 about The Crow: Salvation! It is finally found that the late release date in March 2000 could be due to "40% out of focus" footage. It is possible that the shoot took longer because of this and maybe delayed the release date! Just thought I would pass along a little Crow Salvation news that I got while standing in a 7 hour line for Phanom Menace tickets at Mann's Chinese. As I was standing in line by myself being completely bored, I struck up a conversation with a guy who was 2 people behind me in line. He casually mentioned that he just got back from Utah shooting a film. Naturally my eyes lit up and asked which one? He responded with "The Crow 3" ... I said "The Crow Salvation?". Yep, that was it. This guy was the camera assistant on the flim ... anyways, I asked him for some details on the shoot and this is what he said. I asked about the scar "makeup" of Eric Mabius. He said that is was actually quite good and that the effects people working on it did a very good job. He said it didn't look cheesy at all. I also asked him about the actors ... He said Eric Mabius was a nice guy, but kept coming up to him and hugging him at the beginning of the day which he said was "an actor thing" ... On Kirsten he said, "I thought she was a babe until I found out she was 17, then I sort of stayed clear." ... ha I also asked him about the "Curse of the Crow". He said that nothing major really happened on the film, but he did say that one of the "security" guards got into a gun fight (shots fired) with some trespasser at one of the sets. He didn't really have any details on it, but that's what he said. He also relayed the fact that he was part of the "2nd camera crew unit" of a total of 3 units that were brought in on the film. Evidently, he said that 40% of the film that they shot in the beginning was out of focus and when they realized it, they fired the first crew and hired this "second crew". Also, he mentioned that this same crew that got fired "loaded" a roll of film, but forgot to "thread it" and ended up shooting for a full hour before realizing that there was nothing being filmed. Doh!!! He then said that his crew was a union crew doing a non-union job and the UNION boys found out about it and came snooping around. They convinced the union to allow them to finish the shoot since they were just about finished, but just to be safe, Pressman films hired a 3rd camera crew to basically sit around and do nothing "standing by" in case the 2nd Union crew decided that they had to "walk" because of union pressure. 3rd crew was never needed. Crew 2 was able to finish. Finally I asked him if the movie was going to be any good and he responded with "you saw the second one right?" and he kind of laughed and said "Eh!" ... That pretty much sums it up. He did say that one part was just a rehash of the first film when he said that basically it went along the same premise of "kill the crow (bird) and destroy the man" ... All this thanks to Crow331! May 14th, 1999 8:05pm The Crow #4 (The line between the devil's teeth) has been released and it contains some great Salvation News! Check tomorrow for some more EXCLUSIVE CROW SALVATION NEWS, as usual, only on ABaHB. Here is a review by Richard Wilson on #4 and Salvation: This month's issue of the Image, Crow series introduces, rather quickly, a new force for Eric to reckon with. Her name is Sin. We are given just a quick glimpse of her, but the next two issues promise to have a lot more of her. This issue was a bit confusing, and may take a few readings to understand. Eric comes to the aid of Sarah's grandmother, Lillie, though I do not know how he knows to do this. She calls him "Tim" the whole time and that to is a mystery. A man, sent by Sin, is trying to get to the grandchildren of Lillie because they know where some money is. Eric, along with Lillie, try and protect the children from this intruder. The pencils/Inks were done by Tommie Lee Edwards this time instead of Jamie Tolagson. The overall scenes are well drawn, but Edwards style of drawing faces is different, and in my opinion, not as good as Tolagson's. Overall, not the best in the 4 volume series, but still a worth while read. A major plus of the volume is a very good interview by Jeff Conner with Eric Mabius, stunt coordinator David Lea, and director Bahart Nalluri, from The Crow: Salvation. We are given 3 new pictures along with 2 already seen pictures from the movie. Eric Mabius, when interviewed, had on his desk the Crow anthology "Shattered Lives and Broken Dreams", which he was reading avidly. Mabius is very familiar with The Crow comics, having read the original Caliber comics back in 1993. Mabius appears, like Brandon, to be very in tune with the Crow world, and is just not "stepping" into his part without major background info. Its an excellent interview, and one of the new pictures is VERY Crowesque, showing Mabius, from a distance, as the Crow, in a long hallway. Its wetting the Crow appetite a lot!! Note From Theodicy. To all loyal ABaHB Visitors: Hi to all of you. As you may have noticed in the passing week or two, ABaHB has been updated less, and had some problems.. I want to apologise for all of this crap that you guys have been going through. To start off, one of my room mates just moved out and took her Internet connection with her, so I am somewhat limited now. Also, I have been trying to get some work done on the new aboyandhisbird.com site, but now the company that is hosting the site is starting to dick me over, and I am having BIG problems with them now.. I want you all to know that I am working my butt off to try and get everything back together as soon as I can and get ABaHB back in the condition that it needs to be. Please do not take this out on Irony Despair, because none of it is his fault, he is working harder than ever to get his news on the site for all of you to have even though I am having all of these problems. I hope that you will all still visit ABaHB and support us in this "lull" of sorts that we have been tossed into. Thanks to all of you. Thanks to: The Official Crow STH May 10th, 1999 6:01pm Crow Fans might remember the home made video of The Crow graphic novel for sale a while back, here is a review of the video by Brian Campo: A review of "JAMES O'BARR'S THE CROW" Produced and directed by David Ullman and Matt Jackson Right from the start I am going to tell you that this a movie made by fans, and they did the very best they could with what they had to work with. It's rough, but well worth watching, and well worth the small amount of money they ask for to cover expenses. It is very faithful to the comic, in fact most of it is line for line straight from the comic. The actors are all young and inexperienced, but they take thier roles seriously. The movie is filmed with a video camera, the current parts in black and white, the flashbacks all done in color. For scenes that they couldn't film theirselves, they borrowed some from other movies and stuck in there, and for the most part, it works. Remember the flashback scene in the comic where Eric is on the train and you see the horse entangled in the fence? They use scenes from "Back to the Future III" there. It's a very creative way to get around some big problems. And it works. Editing and direction were done very well. The action scenes are filmed in such a way that you don't ever actually see anybody get shot (like Pulp Fiction) you just see the after effects of the gunshots. It's understandable, gunshot effects are neither easy or cheap to do (and then there's the chance of an accident). Some of the acting is pretty good, especially from David Ullman (who plays Eric) Heather Popa (who plays Shelly) and the guy that really got my attention, Corey Steele (who plays Funboy). He plays the character very well, and really does look the part of the morphine junkie. Some of the other casting could have done better. They have a very hefty guy playing Top Dollar, and smaller guy playing Gideon. The two could have been switched and it would have worked out nicely. Some of the actors look like they are only 15 or 16 and they don't come across as very threatening. Problems with the film are: Lighting. The movie is made to be dark, and it's too dark. You have to crank up the brightness on your tv to see what is going on most of the time. Toward the end of the film it gets better, but it's a pretty dim movie all the way through. They should have gotten ahold of some mechanics spotlights and lit the shit out of the set so you can see what is going on. Sound. A lot of the movie is pretty hard to hear. There are some voice overs that are muttered in such a low voice that I would have no idea what they are saying if I hadn't read the comic more times then I care to admit. Sound effects and music are done well, but normal dialogue goes in and out with the switching of camera angles All in all, I'm glad I ordered it, and I think the people that worked on it should take a bow. I would like to see what they could do if they were given a budget to work with. The movie, like the original comic, was a labor of love, and it's easy to look past it's flaws. review by Brian Campo, who runs a Crow Fan Fiction site and has written numerous Crow stories of his own. May 9th, 1999 10:21am Proyas Gets Red Death Thanks to: Cinescape Dale Midkiff Interview Here is an interview with Dale Midkiff that really picks up at the end! What the Viewers Would Like to Know : QFilming The Magnificent Seven has given you a foot in two worlds now, the past and the present. Which century would you prefer to live in given the chance, and why? DM Ive always loved history. In high school and college, history and English were my favorite subjects. Especially the Civil War, which was one of my favorites. I have the Ken Burns series on the Civil War on tape. I love that stuff. But, Im very happy in the present. And in the Now is where I want to live. This is what I love. Q How does your role on The Magnificent Seven compare to other characters you have done? DMHow do you compare 16 years of characters to one? You cant. And I wont. Buck was an entity unto himself. I loved playing Buck Q Someone described Buck as "Old Yeller" in that he is open, faithful, gregarious, and basically what you see is what you get. Would you agree with that? Or would you like to see more of Bucks serious and sensitive side as hinted at in "Love and Honor," "Vendetta" and some other episodes? DM Old Yeller? That is not bad. He is all of that. Yeah, Buck is all of that. Anyone who is open has this other side to him. He has that mystery, he has that serious side. Buck certainly had all of that. That is the way I looked at it. I never saw anybody as two dimensional, any character I have ever done. Buck had all the fun loving stuff, which I loved. But when push came to shove, that old boy could get down to business. Thats what made all the openness he had seem real. All the gregarious, and the fun loving side, it made it have a purpose. Because he was sensitive, I think Buck was. I think he was like a raw nerve. He couldnt help but care. Thats what I think about Buck, like he couldnt help but be fun loving, and he couldnt help but be open and sensitive. Buck kind of backs into things and he just deals with it as it happens and thats what made him very charming. He didnt put a roof over anything until it had to be. He didnt put a roof over it till it had to have a roof. Q Of all the characters, Buck was the most open? DM Yeah. Oh, yes. Thats the reason I took the character. I thought he had a lot of places to go. Q Did you have input to how Buck was developed and how? DM Yes. Initially they wrote the pilot and I just basically improvised off of that. John Watson and Pen Densham and the director at the time were smart enough to see that what I could do would help the character grow. As far as improvising, with Andy and that whole openness, they just let Buck go. Just let him go. Q And the humorous side? DM That is the exact part they let go. They let it fly. They had no idea how far it could go. Q How are you and Buck alike? How are you different? DM Well, were both fun. How are we different? Well, Im married and have three children. Theres a HUGE difference. That would be it. I have taken on responsibilities Buck has not taken on yet. Q Why do you think Buck has not taken on a serious relationship? DM Because he is not ready. (Laughing.) Q Given what you know about Buck, would you be friends? Why or why not? DM Would I be friends with Buck??? Absolutely. Come on, he is the funnest guy in town. You get a case of beer, you steam a bushel of crabs, hes the guy you want at the party. Q What would you like to see done with the character of Buck? DM His past. Thats what we were gonna explore. We were all going to go back and delve into our histories. It would have been the past with Chris and Buck, which was a very solid history. I think thats the one we wanted to really delve into. Because for some reason Chris puts up with Buck, and Buck puts up with Chris. No matter what. I like the fact that Buck is the only one that Chris will really put up with. I mean, they will fight. Theyve know each other that long. In Love and Honor you see a little bit of it. We always stick together, no matter what. A lot of mail I have gotten says that they loved you and Chris together. I dont know why it worked, but it did. It is like JD and I, I can understand why JD and I worked because of the comedy and we were improvising and it was fun. But there was something about the way Chris and Buck worked together that was very interesting too. I really liked it and I loved working with Michael. Maybe that was it, we just worked. Q Chemistry? DM Yeah, I think that was it. I think we had a lot of respect for each other. I certainly have a lot of respect for Michael. Maybe thats what it was. Q The carefree, easy going nature of Buck is infectious. Is that a facade or the real thing for him? DM Oh, yeah. He is the real deal. Q Buck is constantly on the move looking at all the ladies. What would it take to catch and hold that wandering eye? How would he handle one, a legitimate love interest, that said no? Do you think there ever has been a special one for Buck? DM Rejection? Buck deals with it well. He will always overcome rejection. Thats the thing about Buck. Hes like the clown. The clown will never leave the stage. Theyll tell him Thank you, thats enough. OK, that was great but you gotta go now." and you can still see his foot flapping on the stage because he doesnt want to leave. He wont, its not that he cant, he wont accept it. One of the facets of Buck that I really love, he wont accept no or anything like that or that it cant be done. Q Because of the link to the painful past, Chris appears to have closed the door on the close friendship he had with Buck. Does Buck harbor any bad feelings about the close relationship Chris has transferred to Vin? Should this be explored or resolved and why? DM Chris and Buck? It is a slow progression out of mourning. Buck and Vin got along very well. I think Vin understood the relationship between Buck and Chris, and Buck saw Vin as a very solid guy, very truthful guy. I dont think there was a question about that particular triad, I dont think there was any problem between any of them. Chris and Vin are so serious, and Buck could be serious too. But yet he could also bring in the levity. Chris and Vin appreciated Bucks serious side. Because also he was the conduit between the two, in a way. Q Can you pass along some comments, observations or anecdotes about working on the set of The Magnificent Seven? DM I loved it all. Great. Q Any upcoming projects you would like to alert the viewers about? DM I just finished filming "The Crow - Salvation" for a theater release from Miramax probably in 2000. On Showtime, I did Outer Limits - "Blank Slate" directed by Lou Diamond Phillips. Wonderful experience. I dont have an airdate From: The Magnificent Seven The Painkillers Again! the Painkillers

the Gig (hollywood) Thursday, May 13 10:30pm ($5 with flyer) May 8th, 1999 2:31pm Here is another upcoming actor starring in The Crow: Salvation! AS THE CROW FLIES This seems to be a time of missed opportunities. We missed seeing Dale and Robbie Chong in the Blank Slate episode of The Outer Limits on Showtime. Its been reported that Dale plays a doctor with amnesia who wears glasses in some scenes. One fan says he's a great screamer :-). No moustache! Other than that, not much is known about the episode. We've also heard Dale was in The Siege, which starred Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, and Annette Bening. Although some fans have found his name listed in the credits at some websites. it's not known what part he played. It's not unheard of, though, for an actor to be credited with having appeared in a movie when in reality his scenes were cut. Those of you gearing up to attend Sword Spectacular Weekend will want to read the journal Anthony De Longis wrote on training Dale and other cast members in the art of swordfighting for the Love and Honor episode of M7, a fan favorite. After you read Anthony's journal at http://www.themagnificentseven.com/guest/AnthonyDeLon gis.html, I'm sure you'll agree the man is as gifted with the written word as he is with weaponry :-). Check out the photo page at http://www.awit.com/. Great photos of Dale from M7 and Time Trax there. If you order, tell Shawn that Robyn said hello! Before inviting you to continue on in the domain by clicking on the swinging doors, we'd like to welcome Jeff, who has graciously consented to be the domain's Australian correspondent.
