Lazarus DOA

What is sure to make many happy in the Crow community, Lazarus will soon be officially announced as a movie project separate from the Crow franchise (contrary to previous reports, the decision had not been officially made). It remains to be seen how the script of Lazarus will be changed to reflect an independent storyline separate from the Crow movies.

With this news, no other Crow premises have been announced to replace Lazarus. Perhaps it is time, from a movie stand point, for the Crow to rest. The latest movie, "Salvation" is now available for fans to see. Give it some time to be seen by all fans and then start looking towards the next story. I just hope we don't have to wait almost 5 years again for the next movie to be released to the public!

Thanks to KnicK for the heads up.

Take care.......amf

Server Issues

A day of news was missed because of some server problems, Crow Fans, but never fear, we've got a lot more upcoming to make up for it!

Upcoming Next Month

April is just around the corner, Crow Fans, and you're entitled to know what's coming up that month in the way of Crow merchandise and general items. Well, following the trend of slow months in the Crow business, April doesn't seem to bring anything new, which is just as well, because we're all financially recovering from the price of the DVD! Keep checking for any late entries, however, as there's still no sign of the Crow re-release on the horizon.

A New Salvation Review!

A new fan review of Salvation has flown into our archives, click here to give it a good look over, as it takes a look at positive look at some of Salvation's more intricate points.

Video and DVD updates

Michael Tavares sends along some news regarding the illusive Crow DVD;

"I have looked just about every where for a copy of the box set. Unfortunately, no one has a copy. Tower Video is still waiting for their copies to arrive as are Suncoast Video. No price was given except, get this, $89.99 at Suncoast. Best Buy has no copies of the box set either. However, both Suncoast and Best Buy have the Crow 3 for DVD alone. I decided to rent it at Blockbuster Video for $3.69 and I loved the movie. It's not as great as the original classic we have all come to love, but the drama and mystery behind the third version was entertaining. I felt many emotions during the movie from joy to sadness and laughing at some of the one liners Corvis would say to the criminals ("bend over"). Hope some of this information helps."

And Bloodhawk sends along this news about acquiring a VHS version;

"Go to most any video rental store, and buy a copy a week after it's released for rent. I highly recommend going to Hollywood Video, for the simple fact they get quite a few copies in, and they're rented for five days."

March 23rd, 2001

A Positive DVD Experience

A fan named Andrew sent in this report on his experience getting the boxed set:

"I went to Best Buy on the night of the 20th to buy the box set. It took me awhile, but I did find it. I grabed one of the three box sets on the shelf. I was suprised at the price, $59.99, because I had been expecting a higher one. They had the Salvation DVD available separately, but I did not see The Crow or COA, however did not really look for them either. The menus are superb, the concept behind them being the crow's eye is great. I was a little disappointed in not seeing Brandon Lee's last on camera interview included separately on the dvd, but I hope it is on one of the making of/disscusion features on the bonus dvd."

CrowTV explains why some retailers do not have the DVDs

The following information was given to CrowTV by his Buena Vista Home Entertainment contact:

"If the retailer ordered by the order date (3 weeks prior to street) then their product will be in by street date. If they placed their order late through their distributor then they will be late in receiving product. As for the box sets, not a lot of retailers nationwide order box sets because of the price points. It is mainly an online item or clubs (Sam's, BJ's, Costco)."

As we said yesterday, hang tight. This is very frustrating, but the DVDs will be in stock and out to fans in full force soon. Take care........amf

Salvation Looking Good

The Comics Continuum has updated with an interview with Maia Javan, production designer of The Crow: Salvation. It's not a bad read, so you can click over to check it out if you like!

Boxed Set a no show?

It seems Buena Vista needed a little more time to get the reissued DVD's and boxed sets ready. Many retailers have yet to receive their copies, or received less than they ordered. Fans have reported from all over the U.S. that they have found it hard to find the boxed set and or the individual "Collector's Series" reissue DVDs. Video rental outlets such as Blockbuster have reported either not getting the Salvation DVD at all, or getting less than ordered. Even fans who have pre-ordered and paid for copies of the boxed set and or Salvation are meeting the same hurdle in that they are being told their merchandise is not in yet.

CrowTV, who has worked with Miramax closely in promoting the DVDs reports he received his promo and extra copies of the boxed set on Saturday, March 17th. He received these per an agreement with BVHE to promote the set. He reports BVHE was rushing production of the box sets and it is not surprising there have been delays. The box sets were not in production until 10 days ago, so it was a tight timeframe to meet. He also reports that the delay had nothing to do with legal issues that caused two features to be taken off the DVD, "Crow Chronicles" and David Schow stills. Also, the collectors booklet included with the boxed set, said to be 16 pages is actually only 12 pages long.

We have also heard from SugarRat. He reports that he received his boxset from Suncoast video store. He had pre-ordered it at the price of 59.99 (30 taken off for pre-ordering). He also reports Amazon.com has a 1 to 2 week shipping time for the boxed set and CDnow has them on backorder (per soulreborn). I visted our local Blockbuster and Bestbuy. Both had the DVD and VHS version of Salvation. However, the boxed set was not available at either store, nor was the reissue version of The Crow and COA. Hang tight friends. The DVDs are coming, you just have to be a little patient. Though, this does reafirm why I have continued my refusal to put any money in the bank of Miramax. Take care........amf

Salvation

Salvation has the most convoluted past of any of the Crow films. Once upon a time, it may have turned into The Crow: 2037 helmed by Rob Zombie, but quickly the direction turned into Salvation. Then we've had to put up with the problem of no theatrical release to speak of, so the DVD makes this our first true helping of Salvation to date. What did we think of it? Well, why not click over to Salvation to find out!

STH On Mondays

Our good friend Raven sends along this important info;

"There's a pattern, certain mondays it'll be on for 5 hours, from 11-4pm. On april 9th they'll show closing time, road not taken, brother's keeper, gathering storm, and dead to rights, in that order as it says on scifi.com. I don't quite know why they put gathering storm before dead to rights, but they mixed up the original order before too."

March and The Crow

What have we to expect this month in merchandise apart from the DVD's? Well, not much, Crow Fans, it seems the well of Crow merchandise and items has dried up for the time being, but everything should be as it was soon. Just save your money for the upcoming DVD's!

Scorpion Crow

FigetHut2 sends in this interesting take on The Crow;

On Sci Fi's Black Scorpion, a villian's face has the Crow make-up on the right side of his face. I think the episode is "An Office and A Prankster." Just thought this was a cool little item. As the villian was African American, it kind of made me think of Lazarus.

More Films Added To Boycott

We have added a few more films to the boycott list. Ran across an article in the latest Entertainment Weekly. They detail the upcoming "Spy Kids" from Miramax. Seems the Weinstein brothers have seen it fit to allow a 35 million-dollar budget for this movie. On top of that, they have a McDonald's tie-in merchandise agreement (seems they are running their "little indie" studio a lot like big brother Disney). To make things even worse, they have already put the go on a sequel. From a Crow fan standpoint, the blatant selling out for commercialism by Miramax leaves little doubt that The Crow needs to be distributed by a true independent rather than a Disney wanna be.

Many thanks to Andrew Jones for contributing film names to be added to the list.

Take care, LLcruize

Is Lazarus still a "Crow" project?

Recently, websites like "upcomingmovies.com" and others have posted that Lazarus is all but confirmed to be a non-Crow property. But hold the presses! With reports from Crowrealm that Houston radio is reporting Lazarus is still a Crow property, to a report today from AngelusVosk that Chicago radio is also reporting the same thing, the future of Lazarus as a Crow property is not so dead and buried as some would have you believe. Not to mention, anyone heard from Pressman that Lazarus is not a Crow property?

This is what we know for sure. DMX, Eminem and Joseph Kahn are part of the project. Anything else is speculation by websites.

There are discussions, given the ongoing development of the script and cast, that Lazarus COULD become a franchise outside the Crow projects. Given all the script rewrites and current casting, this is normal discussion. Reporting agencies caught wind of this and prematurely jumped to the net and boldly posted Lazarus was DOA as a Crow project.

In the rush to report this, many aspects were forgotten. To make Lazarus a totally independent project from the Crow movies, it would require a major rewrite of the current script. There are many pieces of the script, if taken out, would leave Lazarus void of any resemblance of a movie. However, if there isn't much taken out of the script, the movie appears to be a rip-off of a Crow movie. So the issue is at hand for Pressman. Do they further delay the project and go with it as a film outside the Crow or do they stick with it and press on? Indications would have us believe Lazarus will fly from the Crow flock. However, until Pressman Films says that, we will have to hang tight for the fat lady to burst into song.

So buckle your seats ladies and gentleman. This should prove to be a funhouse ride we won't soon forget!!

Take care.......LLcruize

Mabius Stars In Resident Evil?

The Cinema Confidential Web site is reporting a rumor that Eric Mabius (The Crow: Salvation) has been cast in the lead role in Resident Evil: Ground Zero, the feature-film version of the popular Capcom video game series. If true, Mabius would join stars Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez in the movie, which has started production in Germany.

The film tells the story of a Special Tactics and Rescue Squad called to investigate strange murders near Raccoon City. The team stumbles upon a deserted mansion, only to find that a secret biological experiment has turned the living into the walking dead.

The Crow or Lazarus?

Sugar Rat sends along some news that may put a lot of your worries to rest, read on;

Release Date: TBA 2002 (tentative)

Title Note: When this project was first announced, it was to be the fourth film in The Crow series, but Pressman Films have decided to develop it separately from the series. (3/1/01) With The Crow series apparently on the downswing, it looks like Pressman Films are deciding to develop this film separately, as just Lazarus, and no direct Crow ties.

Distributor: Currently seeking distribution in the USA. (Note: This used to be part of the Crow franchise, which was distributed by Dimension Films, but no deal has been announced with any distributor yet)

And this from Coming Attractions;

March 2, 2001... Variety has reported that $4 million is the tune that indeed drew Eminem to the film, but they're saying that its days as a part of the Crow franchise are over. They refer to the film merely as Lazarus, and it focuses on the story of two young rappers who are killed and return to life, one good (DMX) and one evil (Eminem). Apparently Eminem has indeed turned down the role in Training Day.

So did the franchise get run into the ground? Are we going to have to wait for The Crow: Year One? We'll let you know when we do. [Originally appeared in Variety; sent in by Internet 24-7.]

Variety reports EMINEM offered role in Lazarus

The online industry site Variety www.variety.com, posted the following announcement today:

Rapper Eminem has been offered more than $4 million to join fellow rap artist DMX in "Lazarus," a film that began as the fourth installment of "The Crow" franchise, but which has evolved on its own.

Hollywood has been after Eminem, who won three Grammy awards last week, for some time, and Imagine and Universal are working quickly to get an autobiographical Eminem movie film set up; Eminem would star and Imagine chairman Brian Grazer will produce. Now being scripted by Scott Silver, the Imagine pic covers the young white rapper's struggle to make a name for himself. Eminem is writing songs with his producer Dr. Dre.

Eminem has turned them down other projects, including the chance to play a heavy opposite Denzel Washington in the Warner Bros. drama "Training Day." "Lazarus," which is being produced by Edward R. Pressman, seems an unlikely film to tempt him. The film is being directed by video veteran Joseph Kahn, was written by James Gibson and recently rewritten by Joe Ide. In the new version, two young men die and are brought back from the dead. One is good and the other evil, and they battle for dominance in the hip-hop world. DMX is set to play the good guy, and Eminem has been offered the role of his nemesis. Eminem is managed by Paul Rosenberg and co-managed by Stuart Parr at Shady Goliath and agented for film by UTA. The managers and the rapper were out of the country and the agency wouldn't comment. If the Eminem deal for "Lazarus" comes together, it's unclear when the film would be made, given the busy schedules of both rappers. DMX will be seen this month starring opposite Steven Seagal in "Exit Wounds."

Thanks to Knick for the heads up on the article.

Crowing in May

What to expect in May for The Crow? Surprisingly enough, not much. Things are looking a little flat for The Crow at the moment without any word on the Crow re-release by James O'Barr or any merchandise to be found. More to come, Crow Fans...
