ABaHB News January 2002 We were recently asked about a net rumor that seems to be gaining some speed of late. It involves Angeline Jolie playing a female character in the next Crow film (Crow 4) entitled "The Crow: Cathedral". We can put those rumors to rest. There are no plans for the next film to be entitled "The Crow: Cathedral", or to feature Jolie in the lead. At one time, there were many possible female led storylines being tossed around. One of those involved a religious slant, which would explain the "Cathedral" name. A fan possibly may have caught wind of the story and put a name to it and started wishing who they would like to see in it. The next thing you know we have a widespread rumor. As for the Jolie casting, as anyone knows that visits Crow discussion boards, her name is brought up frequently in discussions on who should take on a female lead role in a Crow movie. As much as persons at Pressman probably would love to have someone of her celebrity and background, there is no credence to her being cast, much less even spoken to, in regard to playing in a Crow movie. Mark this one up to fan wish fantasizing. Thanks to ChriS Caiafa for bringing the rumor to our attention. Take care.....come what may.
We finish the production notes up today with "The Production: part 3". Also, three more photos from the production. We hope you have enjoyed this look at Ullman and Jackson's amateur Crow film. We are not done yet! We have more pictures and reports coming, to include transcripts from interviews that David has given. Also, we should be getting some reports and photos in from the New York Film Festival from David. So there is a lot to look forward to! We would like to ask our visitors to please not post any pictures that have been featured in this update, directly on a site. If you would like others to see these pictures, please use a link, not the pictures themselves. These are the property of David Ullman and we were given permission to post them. If you would like to post them, please contact David and ask him. Thanks. Take care.....come what may.
Here is "The production: part 2". We continue our look at the production of the Ullman/Jackson Crow film. More interesting aspects of film are revealed and give us more insight to the production. Also, we have included three more behind the scenes photos for you to look at. We hope your enjoying this extensive look at the infamous amateur Crow film. The production notes have one more part and then we will have a "Where Are They Now" update on both David and Matt, as well as more behind the scenes photos. Take care.....come what may. Continuing our look at David Ullman & Matt Jackson's amateur Crow film, we now explore the actual production. In "The Production part 1", you start to see the challenges faced by Ullman and Jackson. Money and lack of consistent help were two huge obstacles that the two film makers had to overcome. We have included three more pictures. These are of the actual production notes that David and Matt used to setup their shots. The comic was used heavily, and as you will see in the pictures, the comic helped to serve as not only the script, but as a storyboard and helped David and Matt map out the scenes. Take care......come what may.
We recently contacted Robert and inquired about his sister Patti's progress. She continues to get weaker. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts & prayers. Robert's site in honor of Patti, Wonderhall, has been updated to allow you to use a credit card to purchase the limited edition "Cathedral" print that he is offering. So if you have been waiting on the ability to use a credit card to purchase the print, head on over to http://www.wonderhall.com and get one of these fantastic prints. The great thing, the money goes for a worthy cause. Take care.....come what may.
To continue our look at the production of David Ullman's amateur Crow film, here is the second part of "In The Beginning". It looks further into why the film was started and how they set about filming it. Also, two new photos from the production to further enhance your viewing pleasure. I wanted to correct something that we had in our initial post in regard to David's film and has been a common misconception since the time the film was first made available. The film was not created as a class project for high school or film school. The only catalysts for doing the film were the love of making movies and the love of The Crow. DMX Talking Crow........Or Is He? We received word from a fan that they had heard DMX recently on the show 106 & PARK say he was about to start work on Crow4. Also, there is a quick update on DMX on MTV.com which says he is about to start work on Crow4: Lazarus. Both of these reports are old. LAZARUS remains a separate project from the still in discussions Crow 4 project. I know the reports on MTV are confusing. As with this latest case, if you have a question, just shoot me an email. As soon as we know what Crow 4 is going to be about, we will be sure to let everyone know. But for sure, we can say, it is NOT going to be LAZARUS. Take Care.....come what may.
As we mentioned last week, we are going to post the production notes from David's amateur Crow film that he completed back in 1998. Along with the production notes, we will post some exclusive photos from the production and film. We are creating a page to house all of this information, so at any time, you can go and check out everything once we have it all posted. FYI......We were going to run the review of the David Ullman project INERTIA: RE-MAKING THE CROW today. However, we are going to expand on that review. We hope to have it ready by weeks end, if not, will be ready first of next week. Today, we start at the beginning. Along with the full credit sheet from the movie, we take a look at the production with "The Beginning: Part 1". It takes a look at the events that led up to the production of the movie. Also, we have a couple of photos for you to take a look at. So click away and enjoy ABaHB in-depth look at David Ullman's work. BTW, don't forget about the New York Film Festival that is going on in February. David's entry; "Inertia: Re-Making The Crow" is being shown. Take care.....Come what may.
Fans of Mark Dacascos are of course aware of his critically and fan acclaimed movie BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. It is currently in a limited release here in the U.S. . The folks at Universal are interested in finding out what theaters are closest to those of you that are interested in seeing the movie. Go to the 13thstreet discussion forum and let them know the closest theater to you. You have to register to post, but it is a very quick registration page. FYI......We were going to run the review of the David Ullman project INERTIA: RE-MAKING THE CROW today. However, we are going to expand on that review. Our friend David Ullman received some fabulous news before the Christmas holiday. As most fans know, he created an amateur film for a school project entitled JAMES O'BARR'S THE CROW. Five years were spent working on this film. He offered it online for the cost of the tape and shipping only (under 10 bucks), no profit was made from the film. In 1998-99, he re-mastered the film and created a “making of” feature entitled INERTIA: RE-MAKING THE CROW. During the process of getting clearance for the re-mastered project, David was given a cease and decease order from Pressman Films. Though his film was being sold for no profit, there were certain distribution rights held by Miramax that Pressman Films had to protect. It appeared that David's 5 years of work on the project would go unnoticed. In December of 2001, David found out that his “making of” feature INERTIA: RE-MAKING THE CROW had been accepted at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. For those fans in the New York area, the film will be playing on Sunday, February 10th at 2:00 PM. The ticket price is set at $10.00. The tickets can be purchased online by clicking on the above hyperlink. Find the date and time on the calendar and then click on the word “tickets” just below the title. To see what the NY festival is all about, click here. This is a fantastic opportunity for David to have at least his work on the film given its due exposure since the film itself cannot be showcased anymore. We were given the opportunity to check out the INERTIA feature and tomorrow a review of the feature will be posted. Take care….Come what may.
Here is the latest from Alex Proyas, click here to read!
We have received word of a potential future project that Alex Proyas is considering. The title of the movie is “Enoch's Portal”. This is based on first-time novelist A.W. Hill's book of the same name. Click on the link above for a full synopsis of the book. The novel follows the life of Stephan Raszer, an investigator of the nether regions and borderlands of spiritual malaise. Raszer is a sort of gumshoe-shaman, who prowls down the dark alleys that the rest of us would like to explore but don't dare. Alex Proyas involvement with the project was reported in the June 2, 2000 issue of Daily Variety, with the movie deal having been closed between Paramount and Alphaville in May of 2001. So hopefully we can see some action in regard to the movie soon. “Enoch's Portal” would be a return to form for Alex Proyas after the departure of “Garage Days”. In style and theme, it's not unlike the work of Neil Gaman and even more like Philip K. Dick. Caldecot (Cotty) Chubb, co-producer of “The Crow”, has called the book “The first Gnostic thriller”. Along with the Amazon.com entry provided, you can also find it at Booksoup. Also, there is a website under construction which allows you to step into Raszer's conspiratorially linked universe and play at being a sleuth. We highly recommend you give the site a look and then purchase the novel. Thanks to A.W. Hill for the information. Come what may...take care.
Money to burn, Crow Fans? Well, if you do, look no further than the original Harley Davidson and outfit used by Iggy Pop in City of Angels! eBay is currently hosting the auction and has been the site of the auctions for Brandon Lee's screen used costume and Vincent Perez's as well!
As we spoke of in our year in review article, there are Crow merchandise items coming out. One of the first is a bust of Draven. A picture of it has appeared in the current "Previews" magazine. Frequent visitor to the ChambeRoom, Crow331, posted a scanned picture taken from the magazine. Here it is for you to check out. Huge thanks to Crow331 for posting this pic for everyone to see.

Another year down, Crow Fans! Well, 2001 didn't turn out to be the Crow Extravaganza that we all hoped it would be, but there's a lot of hope for the future. 2001 saw the demise of Lazarus, yet is also saw the birth of new Crow Concepts. To ring in the new year, we'll run with a rebirth for the comics and another message for Robert Zuckerman. Comics Resurrection The Comics Continuum posts this cryptic little message about the future of the Crow Comics, stay tuned for a lot more to come: "An announcement regarding new Crow comic books should be made soon." Zuckerman Photo Available For A Worthy Cause Robert Zuckerman, still photographer for the first two CROW movies, contacted ABaHB recently to inform us of a personal tragedy that has affected his family. Outside of the movies, Robert's pictures are a major element of THE CROW. Many of us to this day use photos that he took during the making of THE CROW and COA on our sites. Robert's sister is gravely ill with Spinocerebeller Degeneration. To help defer the cost of her care, he is offering a signed print of the famous "Cathedral" picture for sale (picture of Brandon in full costume, seated on a large chair in a cathedral style room). It is a limited edition of 1,100 copies. The prints will be high-quality, lightfast archival 13"x19" size on watercolor paper, numbered and signed by Zuckerman. Each signature will be notarized for authenticity. As a bonus, each print will be accompanied by a signed copy of his poem "Brandon", printed on fine-art paper, suitable for framing. This is the first time since his pictures were made available 9 years ago, that Robert has offered one of them for a profit. His pictures have been used on countless t-shirts and other merchandise with no money going back to him. Only now, with his sister gravely ill, is he attempting to profit from the sale of his work. And in this case, it is not for personal gain, but to help out with the care of his sister. Go to his site, www.wonderhall.com . It is full of information detailing his sister's condition, the history behind the famous "Cathedral" picture, his decision to offer it for sale and how you can order the print. He will update the site with current information on his sister so everyone is kept abreast of her battle. We are asking if you have a local comic store, see if they will allow you to place an ad on their door promoting the site, as well as let you put some copies of the order form in their stores. There are a great many fans that do not go out on the net, so we need to reach all fans that would want to purchase this print. I personally will be going to my two local comic stores and placing order forms as well as promotion fliers. This is a worthy cause for us to get behind. Even if you're unable to purchase a print, by getting the word out, you will be helping Robert's family. Take care.....amf |
