Here is the current list of films that are coming out or already out. Thanks to Andrew Jones for keeping up with the list and sending it in. Dracula 2000 Chocolat Captain Corelli's Mandolin Bandolier Spy Kids Malena Birthday Girl Dimension's latest dark movie, Dracula 2000 , continues to get bad press. Here is an excerpt from an Entertainment Weekly article dated Jan 19, 2001, issue #578. This excerpt came under the title "loser" in their picks of winners and losers for the movies in 2000: Loser: Doing the same old thing We've already touched on the billionth Schwarzenegger action vehicle. But other film franchises wore out their welcome as well. Disney's 102 Dalmations will be lucky to gross half of its predecessor's take. And judging by the toothless performance of Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000 , Dimension seems to have released one too many quickie horror flicks. Hmmmm, I seem to recall someone else making that same last statement somewhere before....wonder where?? :-) Take care....LLcruize Salvation Screening Don't forget to follow this link for all the info on Salvation's special screening in Northampton, Massachusetts! http://members.aol.com/ericmabius January 27th, 2000 We Have all the Answers The massive Crow Questions and Answers section has had another overhaul, this time becoming larger than ever! Don't forget the new start time on SciFi www.scifi.com , 11pm EST. http://abahb.crowfans.com/Reviews/TV/single/ep2.html January 16th, 2000 Another Birth To Announce!! It seems December was the month for persons who are fans or are involved with The Crow, to have children. Yours truly, welcomed a daughter on the 21st. As we reported earlier in the week, O'Barr welcomed a daughter. And now we are pleased to announce that Mark Dacascos and his wife Julie Condra welcomed a baby boy to the world on December 31st in Hawaii. His name is Makoalani Charles Dacascos. The origin of his first name is rather interesting and I thought you would like to see it. Here is how Mark described the origins on his official site, www.dacascos.com : Makoalani is Hawaiian. Makoa = courage, fearless...That's how Julie and I feel our son entered this world. Lani = sky, heaven; heavenly, spiritual... That's where we believe he came from. I found the word for 'courage.' Julie looked up the word for 'heaven.' So we put them together and we have 'Makoalani' = Celestial Courage. Go check out his official site's news section for complete details. He has posted a letter there, that initially was sent to all of his family, but he cared enough about his fans that he requested it to be posted on his site as well. We wish them all the best with their new son. Take care...LLcruize January 15th, 2000 Shopping for The Crow The CrowManiac has sent in some goodies for all you Crow Fans out there. If you've got a lot of money to spend, you can buy a faux leather Draven coat from TrenchCo. it's not a bad replica, but very, very expensive for what it's worth. On the other hand, if you're looking for the 12 inch Crow online, you can find it over at Action Figure Times. Then again, if you're looking for a true collectors item, you can spend 20,000 (US) and buy the real deal. The moleskin shirt, long double breasted (actually vinyl, not leather) coat and leather pants Brandon Lee wore in The Crow. Enjoy! January 14th, 2001 Salvation DVD Trailer ABaHB's old friend Lee sends along some great news for the upcoming DVD release of Salvation, namely the illusive trailer! Read on. "I thought it would be definitely worth mentioning that now everyone can see the trailer for Salvation..........provided you have access to a DVD player. In this months issue of Total Movie magazine, the DVD that comes with it has the Salvation trailer in it. You can find it under the DVD EXTRAS menu selection and just scroll down 'till you find it. I found the trailer to be pretty impressive. The make-up looks kick-ass, and just the overall look of the film (or, at least what I saw from the preview) looks like a cross between the Original and City of Angels. The only thing I saw that was, for lack of a better word, a disappointment, was that in Salvation, there is another scene where the Crow just stands there as he gets shot by a lineup of badguys......does this have to be done in every Crow film? Oh well, none the less, it looks impressive." Extra thanks to: The Crow Lives January 13th, 2001 STH Returns On Sunday Make sure to tune into the SciFi www.scifi.com channel this Sunday, 11am EST, for The Crow: STH. They are starting again with the first episode, "Soul Can't Rest". Click here for a synopsis of the episode, along with a personal thought, Crow rating and list of music groups featured in the episode: http://abahb.crowfans.com/Reviews/TV/single/ep1.html To start things off right with STH, here is a bio on the star, Mark Dacascos. Mark Dacascos - Eric Draven Mark Dacascos is the son of Al Dacascos, Moriko McVey, and his stepmother, Malia Bernal. His father is of Filipino, Spanish, and Chinese ancestry. His mother is half-Irish and half-Japanese. Mark lived in Hawaii with his grandparents, Raymond and Jan Kijoko until he was 6. He then moved to Denver, Colorado, with his father and stepmother, Malia. Mark's parents were Kung Fu teachers (his father still is), and had successful schools in Denver, Colorado. Mark competed in his first martial arts tournament at the age of seven. Mark lived in Denver for four years before he moved to Europe. His parents had the opportunity to be some of the first Kung Fu teachers to share their art commercially in Germany, so they took it. Mark found himself in Hamburg, going to a school that taught English only as a second language. It was not long before he was fluent in German and comfortable living as European. Nearly every month, Mark had the good fortune of either competing and performing for the Dacascos Kung Fu School in yet another foreign land, or just being a tourist with his family. When Mark was 17, he traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, to study Mandarin and to learn some Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. His teacher in the art was Sifu Muo Hui Shen, originally from Mainland China. Mark studied with him for six months before returning to Hamburg. At the age of 18, Mark moved back to Hawaii, and lived with his other grandmother (Grandma Nancy) and his Uncle Allen/Charlie, in Kalihi Valley, on Oahu. Mark's family has lived on that same property for over 50 years. After spending so many years living as a foreigner in a different country, it was really special for him to come back "home." Mark has over 17 films to his credit. He recently finished two projects, Le Pacte des Loups ( "The Wolf Brothers") in Paris and "China Strike Force" in Shangai. Le Pacte is due to premiere in Paris on January 25th. Strike Force could be a U.S. theatrical release summer of 2001. He is currently working on "The Perfect Husband". His list of movies include "No Code of Conduct", co-starring with Charlie Sheen, "The Base", "Sanctuary", "Drive", co-starring with Kadem Hardison, and "Boogie Boy". Two of his early movies, "Double Dragon", and "Only The Strong", helped to propel his career. Visit www.dacascos.com , the official Mark Dacascos site, for a complete look at his films and other information. January 12th, 2001 Loft Report on Upcoming DVD Set Frank from The Crow's Loft had a chat with Kevin Kasha of Miramax Home Video and Kim of the DVD department over at Miramax. This is what they had to say! For the UK fans and people overseas. Miramax does not have the rights for foreign distribution in most markets. There will not be any music videos due to the copyright and royalty nightmare that creates. Extra Brandon Lee interviews are being worked on currently, that also want to be sensitive to the family at the same time. Here is what is confirmed and official for the DVD Box set. There is still a few more features being worked on. Each of the DVD's will contain a screen play viewer and an enhanced playback track which includes commentary and trivia from Jeff Connor, and a list of web links. The Crow DVD - Behind The Scenes, 30 minute James O'Barr commentary. Three extended scenes which include Arcade Games, The infamous Funboy/Eric Draven fight, and THe Shoot Out at Top Dollars. However there will not be any video footage of the liquor store hold up, due to today's politcal environment. There will be a bunch of deleted scenes stills. The storyboards will contain info on the liquor store hold up and Skull Cowboy. The Skull Cowboy footage will not be on there since it's already on the web. There will a Devil's Night Retribution Trivia Game. Different levels of diffculty. People can post their scores online too. The Crow: City of Angels - Behind The Scenes, Costume Design, Production Design, Still Gallery of the original poster concept, and Storyboards. Commentary from Jeff Most, Graeme Revell, Richard Brooks, and Alex McDowell. The Crow: Salvation - Behind The Make Up , Behind The Scenes, Storyboards, Production Design, Who's that bird, footage with the crow trainer. Commentary from Bharat Nalluri, Eric Mabius, Jeff Most, Macro Beltrami, and the production designer. And you can pre order your own Crow boxed set from the Crow Fans store or Amazon.com. Extra thanks to: The Crowmaniac January 11th, 2001 Screening of The Crow Justin H sends along some great news regarding a new screening of The Crow in NYC! The 'Freakylinks' episode mentioned is one that bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain Crow film in production, as here is the episode synopsis; "When a rapper, previously thought to have been gunned down, starts to make unsubstantiated appearances, Derek and the group investigate the phenomenon on the "Subject: Still I Rise" episode." Resurrected rappers seem to be the order of the day, as that makes two projects now with the same premise. Now, here is Justin's report of the screening of The Crow! "At Fangoria.com in the "Terror Teletype" section there is some information about the Crow. There is a film festival being held by the Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAM Rose Cinemas in NYC featuring a retospective of Ed Pressman's films. The Crow will be shown on Feb. 24. There is a link to a web site for the festival, but it didn't work. Also, if you are still interested, the Freakylinks episode about the resurrected rapper out for revenge airs this Friday at 9:00 on Fox." O'Barr Welcomes A New Child We have received an unconfirmed report that James O'Barr and his wife Kerin, have a brand new baby girl named Noel. She was born two weeks ago. This is fantastic news and we wish them all the best. January 10th, 2001 Miramax movies to boycott For those still supporting the boycott, here is a list of upcoming, or already in the theater, movies that Crow fans need to steer clear of. Dracula 2000 Chocolat Captain Corelli's Bandolier Spy Kids If anyone missed the financial numbers from "Dracula 2000", here they are: First week: 7.8 million Second week: 6.7 million That is a total of 14.5 million dollars made in two weeks. Seems ole Drac just isn't the draw at the box office he used to be, even if Wes Craven has his name attached to it. This, instead of Salvation, was Miramax's "dark" theatrical release of the fall. With all the positive buzz from fans on Salvation, I have no doubt it would have made 14.5 million in its first week alone. I hope everyone has stayed away from renting and purchasing "Scary Movie" on VHS/DVD. They (Miramax) are getting ready to put together another original idea, "Scary Movie 2". One thing we can take hope in. The announcement of "The Crow: Lazarus" mentioned that it has no distributor at this time. Hopefully the folks at Pressman can find someone who will support "The Crow" from a theatrical release standpoint. Thanks to Carol Jones for the update on the films to look out for. Take care. Salvation Review JV Roig takes a personal and straight forward look at Salvation in his new review of the film. In it, he deals with the pros, cons and appeal of Salvation, while looking at the films weaker points. So, click here to check it out! January 9th, 2001 The Winged Messenger ABaHB Articles Raven's new article has flown in, and it's certainly worth the read. Raven takes the essence of each Crow venture and holds each one up on its own, rather than compare it with the first film, hence why the article is called 'No Comparison.' Do take the time to click over and check it out! January 8th, 2001 Finland Fans Fly GRAiN has some fantastic news for those Crow Fans in Finland! Salvation has had another release, here is the full report; "This has been great week for Crow fans in Finland. Crow -Salvation (Finnish name: Crow-Pelastus) has been released (by Egmont-Entertainment) on VHS. There were no advertising or promotion of any kind and I'm sure that many finnish Crow fans doesn't even know that Salvation is released. Salvation will be released on DVD 26.01.2001. "
Just to give a little perspective on what a great choice Joseph Kahn is for director of "The Crow: Lazarus", here are some career facts: * Directed over 200 videos * To date, has over 600 shooting hours between videos and other film forms * For 6 of the last 8 years he has been his own director of photography (a quality that he shares with former Crow director Alex Proyas), so you know he is coming into Lazarus with a great visual sense. Joseph is probably the most well-known Korean outside of the country. His slick visual style has helped him become one of the most prolific, high-tech hip-hop video directors around outside of Hype Williams and McG. Joseph has recently worked with many of today's heavy chart hitters such as Janet Jackson, Faith Hill, Sisquo, Korn, Moby, Backstreet and Britney Spears. His experience with shooting videos will serve him well, especially when it comes to budget and time constraints of a movie. To date, one of the more experienced directors to take the helm of a Crow movie. January 6th, 2001 Tim Bradstreet Takes On "Blade 2" Fans of "The Crow" should recognized Tim Bradstreet from his excellent cover artwork for the KSP comic "The Crow: City Of Angels", as well as his work featured in the Crow anthology book "The Crow: Shattered Lives & Broken Dreams". Tim has been picked to do the artwork for the upcoming "Blade 2" feature film. Check out the comics continuum article, which goes into full detail on what Tim is doing and it offers some insight as to what to expect from the movie's storyline and characters http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0101/03/index.htm Blade's other Crow connection is, of course, script writer and Producer, David S. Goyer. He was the scribe for the "The Crow: City Of Angles" script. Tim and David continue the trend of former production personnel and artists connected with "The Crow" moving on to doing bigger and better things.
STH will be on every Sunday morning at 10am CST in February. As we reported earlier, STH will be back starting Sunday, January 14th, with the episode "Soul Can't Rest". That will be followed by "Souled Out" which is airing on January 21st. We are still trying to find out why SciFi is starting the series from the beginning again rather than picking up where they left off in October 2000. Atleast it is back on and it appears in February atleast, back in full swing. January 4rd, 2001 2001, A Crow Odyssey Welcome to the new year, Crow Fans, this year we can delight to two new Crow films (despite one being released on DVD), the resurrection of the Crow comics by James O'Barr himself and a new perspective on all things Crow. It's going to be a wild year, so join us as we present you with a daily dose of around the clock Crow News 24/7! January 2001 for The Crow Unfortunately, nothing in the realm of Crow merchandise or comics are slated for this month, however, next month is the beginning of a new era of The Crow as brand new merchandise is on its way! Stay tuned for more... Out with the old... As always, the new month brings a revolution in the news, so you can find December 2000s news now in the ABaHB Archives!
