Continuum Crow Report

This from the Comic Continuum;

KIRSTEN DUNST TALKS THE CROW: SALVATION

Kirsten Dunst said that she had "a really amazing chemistry" with Eric Mabius, her co-star of the upcoming The Crow Salvation.

In the film, Dunst plays Erin Randall, the murdered sister of the new Crow, Alex Corvis (played by Mabius), who is accused of murder and sent to death. The film, which has been completed for more than a year, is going to straight to video (also as part of the Crow boxed DVD set) on March 20 after a one-week theatrical test run in Spokane, Wash.

"Every time I worked with him, it was so intense," Dunst said of Mabius. "His eyes are amazing to look at. With that Crow makeup on, you have to express so much with your eyes and everything - and I think he's very intense.

"He comes across as one of the best Crows, I definitely think so. He's got a very good air about him, that kind of mystique of any strong man. His eyes are very powerful. A very good actor."

Dunst said that she enjoyed Erin's character arc in The Crow: Salvation.

"In the beginning, she's a weaker character," Dunst said. "She lives with her dad now, she has no mom, her sister's gone. She's a lonely girl, I think. Throughout the script, when she meets The Crow and helps him avenge my sister's death, I think she learns more about love and she also becomes much more of a tougher girl by the end.

"So she's independent and you can see that she's a strong person at the end."

Dunst also enjoyed being part of the action of The Crow: Salvation.

"Erin kicks butt in the film," she said. "She doesn't stand back and just watch. I liked that about her character a lot."

Dunst, 18, is currently filming Spider-Man, in which she plays Mary Jane Watson. Like her Spider-Man situation, Dunst didn't know much about The Crow before getting the role.

"I was never shown a comic on the set," she said. "Everyone kept telling me, 'Oh, we're going to show you the comic.' Everyone told me how fabulous they were. And I never saw one of The Crow movies because I didn't want to see it before I had done the movie. I hadn't seen the TV show, either. I never get the chance to watch TV."

Dunst told The Continuum that she's aware of the fervent Crow fan base.

"I think they'll love this movie so much," she said. "Even though it's got the same feel as the others, it's got a major love story going on underneath it all.

"I think that everyone will enjoy it - Crow fans and even people who have never seen a Crow movie before. Because I think it takes a step out of the genre, and it's almost better than the others. I think the Crow fans will be very, very pleased."

Look for more on The Crow DVD release soon here in The Continuum.

The Broad Spectrum of Crow Consciousness

This is how the Broad Spectrum of Crow Consciousness works: LLcruize and tWISTEd sPINe brainstorm ideas until one jumps out at us. Then we write. Separately. We DO NOT read each other's articles. We DO NOT discuss what the other has written. We simply take the same theme and let our minds loose... the end result will be as much a surprise to us as it is to you. Will we agree? Disagree? End up in totally different zones making different points? You'll have to read and find out…just like us.

The first article topic is;

Does the Crow belong in the hands of more independent Film Makers?

ABaHB Takes a Look at Tony Todd

Tony Todd portrayed Grange in The Crow

Personal History

Childhood:

Tony Todd was born December 4, 1952 in Washington DC. He is 6'5" in height. His trademark is his tall, dark menacing body and voice. As a child, Tony enjoyed watching scary movies at home late at night. He was also a big comic book fan. He amused himself for hours with his comic books, models and black and white television.

Early Adult Years:

He spent two years on a scholarship at the University of Connecticut which, in turn, led to a scholarship offer from the renowned Eugene O'Neill National Theater Institute. It proved to be his foundation and the touchstone for intense stints at the Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, CT and the Trinity Square Repertory Theater Conservatory in Providence, Rhode Island.

"Trinity Square Repertory Theater Conservatory is a wonderful theatre and school. In an ideal world, I'd just do theatre. Unfortunately it's hard to make a living doing full theatre. I try to do a play a year. So far during the last five years I've been able to do that. It's honest work. It's more direct, more interactive. It's just real."

He appeared in dozens of classical and many experimental plays, yet still managed to find time to teach playwriting to high school students in the Hartford public school system. To that end, and profoundly influenced by his Aunt Clara to be a positive force in the community, he organized and was the artistic director of the Free Me Truth Troupe, which recruits and works with the worst problem children in several cities around the country."

Professional History

Todd's first big break occurred when Oliver Stone caught his work in "Johnny Got His Gun" at New York's Westbank Theater. Stone was so impressed by the performance that he went backstage after the show and offered Todd the role of Sergeant Warren in "Platoon." He has been in over 40 films and has made more than 30 TV appearances.

Some of his high profile films include:

· Legend of Dragoon, The (2000) (VG) (voice) Narrator FMV

Eminem vs Lazarus?

Here's a rumor sent in from Coming Attractions for you to chew on, this is 100% rumor;

February 20, 2001... So who would play the nemesis of DMX? Well, scoopers seem to think it's rapper Eminem, who was quoted on BBC Radio as saying: ""If you people stop buying my records so that I get a break, then I will do a movie. There is an offer that came across recently that does sound appealing to me. It is an action movie. That is all I can say. I would be the villain. This is the first offer I have got that actually sounded appealing to me."

Keep in mind this is unconfirmed and speculative, people. You know what to do with salt.

As we reported, IGN was able to get ahold of a copy of the upcoming Crow film "The Crow: Lazarus". Their review was less than glowing. Lazarus Script Details

This comes from Comics 2 Film, so brace youselves, Crow Fans, and read on;

The Crow: Lazarus Script Reviewed Most fans have yet to see last year's Crow movie, The Crow: Salvation. In spite of this, Pressman Films is pressing forward with a forth installment for the franchise. IGN FilmForce got their hands on a copy of the script for the new movie, which is called The Crow: Lazarus (or possibly Lazarus: A Tale of the Crow).

IGN reports that casting is underway on the new movie, which has long had actor/rapper DMX (Exit Wounds) attached for the lead role. Music video director Joseph Kahn is said to be attached as director of the sequel.

As has been widely reported, the script tells the story of Lazarus, a red-hot rap star who gets gunned down (along with his pregnant girlfriend and record-mogul friend) in a drive-by shooting. Lazarus, of course, returns from the grave as the latest incarnation of The Crow.

The IGN reviewer characterizes the screenplay as being formulaic, and presenting viewers with a rehash of what's been seen in the previous films and in the Stairway to Heaven TV series. The movie does give Lazarus an anti-crow nemesis, borrowing for the TV show mythology. It also features the return of Detective Albrecht, who was played by Ernie Hudson in the first Crow movie. The reviewer also takes exception with the script's unrealistic portrayal of the world of rap music.

For our friends in the UK on a new UK channel called The Studio Channel, there will be a documentary shown after The Crow. More Films Added To Boycott

Andrew Jones has sent in more films to add to our boycott list. Remember, not only does the boycott cover theatrical releases, it goes for the VHS and DVD release of these films as well. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of Miramax/Dimension when it comes to the upcoming boxed Crow DVD set. However, we can make our voices heard loudly by refusing to support their other projects. Those of you still with the boycott, stay strong. When we sacrifice our convictions and integrity for the sake of profit or other gains, we significantly reduce their value when they should be priceless.

ABaHB takes a look at Bai Ling

Bai Ling portrayed Myca in "The Crow"

Personal History

Bai Ling was born in China in 1970. Her name, in Chinese means "White Spirit/Light". Both of her parents are teachers. Soon after her birth, she moved to Szechwan, China to live with her grandmother. Bai Ling has acted the majority of her life. When she was 14, she became a soldier in the Chinese army. She mainly entertained the troops stationed in Tibet. Though she was a star in her native China, in 1989, at the age of 21, she ended up in New York as a visiting scholar at NYU's film department. Her visit to New York was a result of her involvement in the pre-democracy movement in Tiananmen Square, Beijing the same year. Her parents and grandmother are still in China

Professional History

While still living in China, Bai Ling made seven feature films and performed in many plays. After coming to the United States she acquired roles in "The Crow" (1994) (Her role even more noteworthy since Myca had not been specifically written as an Asian character.), "Nixon" (1995) , "Red Corner" (1997) starring opposite Richard Gere, and "The Wild Wild West "(98). After starring in "Red Corner", she was declared a traitor in her native China. Her professor parents were ostracized at work and she could not go home. Since making "Red Corner", Bai Ling has learned almost perfect English and become an American citizen. In 1999 she starred in the Jodie Foster epic, "Anna and the King". In 2000 she was in "The Monkey King", a Hallmark Entertainment primetime television presentation, as well as starring in "Chi-Chian", a 14 episode, futuristic stop-motion animated series created by stop-motion animator and Goth musician, Voltaire. She dubbed the voice of cartoon character Chi-Chian. ( You can check this out on www.scifi.com ). Bai Ling has also made guest appearances on popular TV shows such as "Angel" (99), "Touched by an Angel" (98), "Song Jia Huang Chao" (97), "Nobody's Girl" (95) and "Homicide: Life on the Streets" (93). In 1998 she was named one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World".

What is she up to now?

Bai Ling is currently residing in Marina Del Ray, California. She continues to star in "Chi-Chian", which can be viewed only on the SciFi network. She is dating singer Chris Issack.

"I am a big crow fan I live in Canada. And I called my blockbuster video location and asked when they are getting the crow salvation. Well sir, we are getting it march 20th, well I said finally at least we know that this is the final date. Salvation Reactions

As the date for Salvation draws ever nearer and more people are getting the chance to watch the film, we here at ABaHB are interested as to what your reaction was after seeing it and your insights. CaptHowdy280 has sent in his review after watching the promo copy and here is what he has to say;

"Last Sunday (January 28th), a friend of mine at a local Tommy K's Video had mentioned that the store had recieved a promo copy of "The Crow: Salvation". He allowed me to watch it over night and I must say that I am both very impressed and upset. I am impressed with the new angle they took on the film and with the cast that was chosen. It was a well made sequel and a lot better than "The Crow: city of angels", which upsets me that it could not be seen the way it was intended. In theaters. But all in all, it was a very good and entertaining movie and I hope it gets the attention it deserves when it is released on video & dvd in March."

February 1st, 2001
