DragonCon Update

Arykh, our good friend over at the ChambeRoom, checked in with some updates on the Crow front from this years DragonCon in Hot-lanta, Georgia:

No news or booths up for Wicked Prayer. This is really no surprise, but we had hoped perhaps a little something might have been there, oh well.

O'Barr is set up across the street from the main hall, in a little area off the beaten path. Not the setup that O'Barr had been promised (not to mention some other things that he had been promised by the event staff have not come to pass). So needless to say this has not been the best of events for James.

James did give an update on his long in the works "Gothic" project. He has around 360 pages complete. It took him 10 years to complete The Crow and this looks to be the same for this project. He was given some conflicting information about Wicked Prayer that we are tracking down. Do not want to state the exact nature of it hear in order to keep the net rumors down, but will give details when we know more.

That is all Arykh had for us and we appreciate him checking in with the update.

Sunday, August 31st, is the deadline for the contest. Make sure to get those entries in!

Wicked Prayer Update & Contest Reminder

The post production activities for Wicked Prayer continue at a quickening pace. The initial cut of the film should be ready soon for the executives to see and pick apart (no movie makes it past the first cut without something being changed). Those photos that were released last week by Chris are still not back up and do not look for them to be back up until Wicked Prayer is just about ready to hit theaters/stores. With the first cut of the film going up to the execs, hopefully we will get a sense of where they stand on the theatrical vs direct-to-video release topic. Not sure if anyone has noticed the frequency of The Crow movie on cable television of late. This can only help start building some awareness of the franchise (which I bet is not by accident). The movie was on TNT this week and was on TBS a few weeks back. As much as both of those Turner stations rerun movies, we could see The Crow appearing a lot more. Keep tuned in to ABaHB for the latest information on Wicked Prayer.

Contest deadline is coming up fast (August 31st). Get those entries in before you head off for the 3-day weekend. Don't forget to keep up with the Atrocity Tour happenings over at DragonFly Productions.

Rare Crow Footage Available

We have one of our frequent visitors to ABaHB, John Carvalho, who has an interesting item for sale. It is a 3hr video that contains a lot of footage from the making of The Crow. Some of the never before seen footage is Brandon Lee on top of the apartment building in full Crow costume, with a gun in his hand, laughing. As well as behind the scenes footage of Brandon getting make-up applied and numerous other never before seen images. John came about this footage from a collector who got it from the studio that was putting it together for possible distribution.

The footage is in VHS format, but can be transferred to DVD for no extra charge. John says the quality of the audio is excellent. The video quality is good to excellent. There is one part of the footage where the video quality is average and that is due to lighting. John is asking $50.00 for the 3 hours of footage. He will accept cash, money order or checks.

If you are interested in this item, you can contact him at either this email address or this one.

ABaHB Advertising Policy As frequent visitors know, corporate advertising does not fund our site. You have no pop-ups or ads in your face when you visit us. However, we will advertise for other fellow fans that have items to pass on to other fans. We will only post items that we have no reason to doubt the validity of. That is not a 100% guarantee, but we do try to make sure any people we post items for are not out to scam our loyal visitors. We ask that both the seller and buyer live up to the agreed terms of the sale, whatever that may be. If we are notified that either the buyer or seller do not live up to the agreed terms, we will post that information on our news site so others are warned. We feel this is fair and should be expected by any legitimate seller or purchaser.

Contest Clarification

In discussions around the net, we have found that some are under the false impression that to be an "ultimate" fan, one must have loads of merchandise, or be fanatical in some sort of fashion about the movie. That merchandise and fanatical behavior are only what the judges will be looking for. That is not so. Sure, owning a load of items shows a measure of passion for the film, but it goes beyond how many items, but WHY you have so many items. That is what the judges are looking deep into, that is what you need to concentrate on. WHY have you gone and seen the films X amount of times? WHY has it turned your life around. WHY do you feel the need to quote the movie all the time, etc etc.

An ultimate fan is about the movie reaching inside of you and transforming you. It is about your whole state of being some how altered.

Look beyond the merchandise and fanaticism. Look deep down and tell us WHY you are a fan, WHY you are an "ultimate" fan.

Wicked Prayer Update

All continues to go well with the post production of "The Crow: Wicked Prayer". Confidence is still high in regard to a theatrical release, but it is too early to know for sure which direction Dimension will go. Fans have asked about promotion shots, news items, etc. Now that the film has passed into the post production phase, all of those types of things are under the control of the Miramax/Dimension promotion department. Do not expect to see anything until closer to the time that the film is due out.

When is the film due out? There were reports on the net that with the early completion, we might see a late 2003 release. Don't expect that to happen. The planned release has always been sometime in early 2004 and nothing has taken place to change that. But as with anything, release dates are subject to change. But if you think about it, late 2003 would not be a good time to release Wicked Prayer to theaters. With the final Matrix and LOtR movies due out in November and December, not to mention numerous high profile genre DVD releases, it would not be a good idea to release Wicked Prayer to the theaters or direct to video with such a crowded market of genre films.

Wicked Prayer cast members Tara Reed and David Ortiz are in two up coming projects, "My Bosses Daughter" (Reed) and the TV series "Miss Match" (Ortiz). David Boreanaz of course has the 5th season of "Angel". We will continue to keep up with Wicked Prayer cast members.

Take care............

Tara Reid Talks Crow

Alex sends us along a link to FHM, where Tara Reid is featured as a covergirl. In the accompanying interview, she mentions Wicked Prayer:

You recently filmed the next sequel of The Crow in Salt Lake City. Did you come across any interesting Mormon traditions?

We went out to dinner there one evening and all the tables in the restaurant were set up for 15 to 20 people, which I thought was weird. Then these families walk in with one man, a bunch of women and a load of kids and it was like, whoa! Very bizarre. I could never be a Mormon, because I love caffeine, I don't like to share my men and you can't smoke. You can't do anything—I don't even think you can watch TV.

An Animated Crow?

We've heard of this project before, but we'll see if anything becomes of it. Superhero Hype! and Bloody Disgusting have this to report:

Animated Crow Series a Go?
Tuesday, August 12, 2003 3:26 CDT

Bloody-Disgusting alerted us they talked to The Crow creator James O'Barr at Wizard World Chicago who said the cartoon series is on again. O'Barr also mentioned he liked the script for the upcoming movie...

Last but not least, here's a little scoop from Jame O'barr, the creator of the Crow. He told me that Kevin Eastman (creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and him are still developing the Crow TV Series. Kevin is still working on another series, but the second he finishes, he will begin pushing the Crow series, which could end up around the same time at the movie. Speaking of the movie, James O'barr actually sounded impressed by the script! Everyone who knows him knows how much he really didn't like two and three. He feel this one is very different and can be good if the director does it right. A blessing from the man himself!

Recently, the folks over at E! ran a poll of the top 101 most shocking deaths in entertainment history. Brandon's death made the list (#72 I believe). Just go to the site and look for the footage.

All Three Crow Films Make Wizards Top 50 Comic Films

One of our visitors to ABaHB, John Warren, sends along this run down from Wizard of how the Crow films placed in the Wizard Magazine Top 50 Comic Book Movies Of All Time

#40 The Crow 2: City of Angels (1996, Miramax) Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan star in a love story that--oh wait. Wrong flick. This sequel to "The Crow" has nothing to do with the 1994 hit (original star Brandon Lee died tragically during the filming of the first flick), and it shows. VIncent Perez (a heavily accented French actor) stars as the undead vigilante as the second installment of James O'Barr's underground series follows Ashe Corven, a man killed along with his son after witnessing a murder. Ashe gets a second chance for revenge and tracks down the man behind the murder, a psycho named Judah. "City of Angels" gives new meaning to the phrase "slow as molasses" but look for an appearance of upcoming "Punisher" star Thomas Jane.

#38 The Crow 3: Salvation (200, Miramax) Following suit with the first "Crow" sequel, "Crow 3" once again tells a story that has nothing to do with the original film. It's slightly better this time around as clean-cut Alex Corvis (played by Eric Mabius, who would later pop in "Resident Evil") takes on the role of the undead soldier of vengeance after being wrongfully executed for the murder of his girlfriend. Corvis gets a second shot at redemption and, as these Crow guys want to do, unveil the true killers. What makes this "Crow" rank higher on the list? Try a pre-"Spider-Man" (and still very hot) Kirsten Dunst making her first appearance in a comic movie.

#15 The Crow (1994, Miramax) Always marked by the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee, "The Crow" stands as one of the darkest, most violent comic book films ever created. True to its roots in James O'Barr's comic series, the film follows Eric Draven, a 20-something who returns from the grave seeking revenge on the men who murdered him before raping and killing his fiancée. Filled with high-octane action sequences (such as a double handgun-toting Draven takes out a room full of mobsters), "The Crow" became an instant cult hit with fans and launched an entire franchise of sequels. Simple but compelling, "The Crow" can be summed up by one of Lee's most memorable lines: "It's a not a good day to be a bad guy."

Good to see that the Crow films were listed, helps for sure with a new film coming out to have this kind of positive publicity.

Thanks to John for sending this in to us

Take care……
